Pregnancy and Products

Hello,
I am trying to get some information about using covering products while pregnant. I currently use Toppick and Couvre. Does anyone know about the use of them while pregnant. Of course I would not want to do anything to harm the baby; however, as we all know it is really hard to give up your cover. Maybe I will consider shaving my head after all this….urggg. Thanks in advance for any info or advice. I only hope if does not fall out more rapidly as the pregnancy progresses….:(

Can Applying Topical Green Tea To The Scalp Help Fight Hair Loss?

Although the topic of green tea as a hair loss remedy is a popular subject, few discussions focus on the tea as a topical therapy. Because of this, many wonder if applying green tea to the scalp can help slow or reverse androgenetic alopecia or male pattern baldness. According to a study conducted at the [...]

BCP’s and Blood Clot

Hi there,

I wanted to get on here this week and post about my experience with my
visit to the Naturopath doctor last week but on Tuesday morning I instead woke up with a massive blood clot in my pelvic (I’ll do another post about the Naturopath later). I went to emergency where I was informed by two doctors that I might died if the clot breaks off and goes into my lungs or heart. That’s not an everyday experience and one I hope to never have again. I am now seeing a very good Haematologist and had a CAT scan on Thursday. So far I’m doing ok. I can’t walk well as my left leg is swollen 2 sizes from the clot. I am now home on two weeks of bed rest and six months to a year of blood thinner injections. The reason I am posting this here is because it was all caused from me taking Diane 35. I am a very healthy 42 years old and have never taken bcp’s until my hair loss started in 2009. I jumped on Yasmin in May 09 and then to Diane 35 in Jan 2010. So you can see it didn’t take long for the blood clot to form. There is no history of blood clotting in my family or with me. This was 100% caused by the bcp’s. I’m not suggesting this will happen to anyone else on here but I thought it would be good to send out a warning. If anyone is experience any tingling, pain, or discoloration in their legs or shortness of breath since being on bcp’s it would be a good idea to go to your doctor. The scariest part is that many people don’t end up in emergency they died before they get there. The doctors said that even though Diane 35 is red flagged as a higher risk for blood clots most of the time it’s other bcp’s that cause them. Even in very young people. Age doesn’t seem to be a deterrent.

So now I’m home with my leg propped up above my heart for the next couple of weeks. I’ve stopped all hair loss treatment except the Nizoral 2% shampoo and was told I will never be able to take any type of hormone replacement again. So now I wait and see what my hair will do. It’s only been 5 days so no change yet but I know it can take up to 3 months before hair loss starts after taking bcp’s. I had cut my spiro back to 100mg from 200mg a week and ½ before all this and that hasn’t affect anything either. So far so good. The good thing that came out of this for me is that I care a whole lot less about what happens to my hair at this point. It will do whatever it’s going to. I’ve had lots of time to prepare spiritually and emotionally. I’ve already decided that if it starts to shed a lot that my husband will shave it off. I have fairly long, dark brown hair so it will be quiet a change. Thanks to all the stories and all the brave women on here I feel I have the strength to face this with a positive attitude. I will keep posting. I tried to upload pics of my hair loss on the network but it kept saying my pics were too big. I have lots of time so I’ll try again to figure it out. Sending out love and positive energy to all the beautiful women on this site.

Treating Hair Loss in Your Twenties

While the last ten years have seen great technical advances in surgical hair restoration, some balding patients seeking consultations with hair loss physicians will discover that they are not yet candidates for a hair transplant. Oftentimes this is due to the patient being too young. There is no “ideal age” for a hair transplant but [...]

new diagnosis

Hello, I’m new here. It’s nice to read the stories of so many great women. I was diagnosed two days ago with androgenetic alopecia. I would like to tell my story, and I hope that I can receive some advice.
I have two daughters, ages 6 and 8. After their births I didn’t notice any serious hair shedding, maybe a bit. I decided to carry for an infertile couple as a surrogate. Last year I gave birth to twins, and after the birth I had a great deal of shedding, most noticeably were the two bald patches above my temples. After a few months things seemed to be getting back to normal. My hair started to grow back.
Since I love being a surrogate I decided to carry for another couple. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out with the second couple. But in the last two years I have gone through a lot medically. In Vitro fertilization involves a lot of hormone adjusting medication. Even though the second couple and I parted ways before the embryo transfer I did go back on birth control pills and completed a "mock cycle", complete with lots of estrogen.
I went off BCP’s in April. That’s when the heavy shedding started. So I finally went to a doctor this week and she told me that it’s andro alopecia. But I’m not so sure! My mother told me that there is a history of hair thinning in the women in our family, but do you thing that it could just be all the hormones that I’ve taken in the last two years and that my body will readjust over time? Gosh I hope so. I’m not afraid of losing my hair, but I would like to keep it, of course! Thanks so much for listening.

newbie looking for advice

I just found this site after searching on the internet for a while for answers to my hair loss. I am 37 years old, have 2 kids, and went off the pill back in December (tired of feeling moody and like crap all the time). I have had fine hair my whole life and really can’t afford to lose any more. The hair at the front of my scalp at my bangs has really thinned out. It looks really bad and I am freaking out! I have to wear a hat if I am out in the sun for any period of time or my scalp gets cooked! My husband has been blaming me for clogging up the shower drain and I laughed it off but now I think he was right. I need advice on what type of doctor to see first, does Rogaine even work, and what type of supplements/vitamins help with hair growth. I also have been hilighting my hair for years and wonder if I should color it back to my natural hair color and stop coloring all together. I also have alot of body (arms) and facial hair (it’s blonde thank God) and I am not sure if drugs like Rogaine will make that worse. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!

Hair thinner towards root in AGA?

Hi All,

for those of you who have been diagnosed with AGA, are each of your hair strands uniform in width? I don’t have a clear diagnosis but what worries me constantly is that every hair that falls is drastically and visibly thinner towards the root than midway down the shaft or towards the end….each inch of my hair is thinner than the inch before it so that each strand (which is about 12 inches long) is very thick and dark at one end, and super thin and light near the root. This is true of the hairs at the back of my head and base of my neck (and these aren’t supposed to be genetically prone to aga!)

I can’t seem to find any information about this. Every article mentions miniaturization as a processes that takes place at the follicle level and not within one single strand of hair. I know I have a very low ferritin level (10) but I can’t seem to find much info on hair width diameter. Would appreciate all responses and insights!

Treating Hair Loss with Avodart

For over a decade, balding men have had two clinically proven options for treating their hair loss medically. !n 1988, Rogaine (minoxidil) 2% Topical solution for Men launched as a prescription medication. Men’s Rogaine 5% Extra Strength solution was approved for over-the-counter use in 1997. That same year, the FDA also approved finasteride to treat [...]

Biosil

I have been taking Biosil capsules for 3 weeks, and my hair seems to be looking better. Biosil is suppose to be good for hair, skin and nails.

My hair on the right side of my head thinned out a lot, not sure if it had something to do with stress. Now it seems to have thicken up a little.

I’ll keep posting results in case anyone is interested.
