Scaring Alopecia
Earlier this year scientists discovered that unprocessed lipids cause primary scarring alopecia. They also discovered that a drug called actos, used for Type 2 Diabetes, may be the new line of treatment. I read an article involving a male with primary scarring alopecia whom tried cyclosporine, cell-cept, methotrexate, plaquinel, accutane, soriatane and various antibiotics with no success. He was later put on actos and within 2 months the symptoms were gone. I just heard from someone that was on plaquinel and steroids for 6 months and had no change in here disease. She was tHen put on actos and within 1 1/2 months the itching, scaling, redness and sores were gone. Both patients have LPP. This is very promising. Two months ago I requested to go on it but my doctor didn’t agree. I will ask again on Monday and if no success I will ask for a referral to Dr Price since the CARF scientists are looking for candidates. I wonder if supplements used to treat Type 2 diabetes? I wonder if an anti-inflammatory diet would help since it involves lowering sugar/fat lipids and also inflammation?. I have read artcles from people that have systemic lupus or discoid lupus and had clearance of the disese when followed by an anti-inflammitory diet. Lupus also has a Tcell defect like some of the scarring alopecias (LPP,DLE). What are your thoghts? Do you know of anyone on an antiinflammatory diet for lupus and if so if it’s successful? What are your thoughts on this? I’ve been a wreck since I received my biopsy death sentance even though the docs are not firm on whether I have LPP, DLE or both. Hard to believe 12 drs at a teacing facility can not make a firm decision.
